The reason for a branch of the Roe Family being in Snelston was Mary Binkcliffe (nee Roe) leaving her large estates to her childless brother Thomas who died in 1795, who in turn left his estate to his nephews Francis (1742) and John (1734).
Thomas' will was proved on 20 Apr 1809. John moved to Snelston and settled there.
