The main purpose of this site is to present my research into my Ancestors and Family.

I have tried to avoid long lists of names and have concentrated on family groups and ancestral lines. If you find any broken links or spot where a link is needed, please let me know.  Unless stated, all pre 1837 'birth' dates are in fact baptisms.
If you wish to search for a name, click on the search button above.

February 2011, I have at last found my 3xgreat grandfather, Edward Turner. He was born in 1803 at Old Sampford in Essex.
The youngest of eight children, at the age of 17 years he travelled to Ipswich and joined the 20th Regiment of foot.
His Regiment were on duty guarding Napoleon Bonaparte on the island of St Helena at the time he joined.

He was on duty at Buckingham Palace on 28 Jun 1838 at the coronation of Queen Victoria.

The Roes originate from Parwich in Derbyshire.

The Roe family spread from Parwich to three main areas initially:

Bakewell
Manchester
Snelston

I am currently transferring to this website the text of a short history of the Roe family that I wrote in 2006 called:

The Roes of the Peak District

In this picture there are my two grandfathers
and a great uncle.
In 2009, I have discovered my Cumbrian roots. My 3xgreat grandfather, Robert Hebblethwaite (1799) was born at Caton near Lancaster but moved to Manchester as an adult. His father, Thomas Hebblethwaite (1753) my 4xgreat grandfather was born at Grayrigg in Westmorland. The Hebblethwaites are from near Sedbergh in the Yorkshire Dales.

Thomas Hebblethwaite married Jane Toulmin in 1780
at St Oswalds, Warton near Lancaster.

 The Toulmins are from Bolton Le Sands, Lancashire
and more details on the Toulmins can be found here.

My 7x great grandfather, John Roe was born in Parwich, Derbyshire in 1625. He was a yeoman farmer at Roystone Grange near Ballidon close to Parwich.

He married Anne Stubbes who is the granddaughter of Sampson Stubbes (see below).

In 1978, some human remains were found and this led to an archaeological dig revealing evidence of a Roman settlement. Details of a Roystone Grange trail  can be found online if you  click here.

During 2010, I have researched more of my Cheshire ancestors:

Dickinsons of Acton by Nantwich and Tarporley;
Walkers and Bayleys of Sandbach;
Briscalls of Over and Church Minshull;
Painters of  Whitegate, Shocklach and Little Budworth;
Sprosons  of Wybunbury and
Bromhalls of Nantwich and Wybunbury.

My 9xgreat grandfather, Sampson Stubbes (c1570 – 1651)
was a  gentleman and lawyer in a village, Butterton, Staffordshire. He would ride to Lichfield to represent villagers in court.

He wrote his own will and a copy can be found on this site, click here.

My 3xgreat grandfather, Leslie Fleming (1805–1893), was a printer in Edinburgh. At the age of 87, he wrote about his personal and professional life. Click on book logo to read.
